Fruit flies are a pesky problem that can invade any home, especially during warmer months. At Brilliantly Clean, we’re always looking for ways to make your home a cleaner, more comfortable space. That’s why we were thrilled to share one of our favorite fruit fly hacks with ApartmentGuide in their recent article, How to Get Rid of Fruit Flies in Your Apartment.

In the article, we provided a simple, eco-friendly solution using a banana peel. Here’s how it works:

The Banana Peel Trap
Place a banana peel in a jar with a small amount of water, leaving part of the peel exposed. Cover the jar with plastic wrap, poke a few small holes in the top, and place it where you notice fruit flies. They’ll be drawn to the smell of the banana but won’t be able to escape the trap!

This natural method is a great way to tackle fruit flies without resorting to harsh chemicals. For more tips, check out the full article on ApartmentGuide’s blog.

Why Fruit Flies Love Kitchens—and How to Stop Them

Fruit flies thrive in damp, food-filled environments, making kitchens a prime spot for them to invade. From overripe fruit to damp drains, it’s essential to eliminate their favorite breeding grounds.

We’ve also found these tips helpful:

  • Store ripe fruits and vegetables in the refrigerator.
  • Keep drains clean and dry.
  • Use natural repellents like basil or essential oils.

For a deeper dive into these methods, don’t miss the ApartmentGuide blog post we contributed to! It’s full of practical advice from cleaning experts nationwide.
